If you go dark, someone gets a nudge to check on you
Welfare Check is a free safety timer you arm yourself. Set a window, add a few emails, and start the countdown. Stop it in time and nothing happens — miss it, and the people you chose are asked to check on you. It never sends your final DeathNote messages.
How Welfare Check Works
Three steps, entirely in your control. Arm it before a risky window, stop it when you're safe.
Set a timer
Choose how long you have before we reach out — 1, 6, 12, or 24 hours, or a custom length. This is your window to get home, land, or wake up.
Add your people
Enter a few email addresses of people who should check on you. They don't need a DeathNote account, and they're never charged.
Stop it — or it sends
A live countdown runs on your dashboard. Stop it any time and nothing happens. If it reaches zero, those people get a short note asking them to check on you.
This is not your final message delivery
Your DeathNote check-in schedule and final delivery are a separate, deliberate system for the messages you want shared after you're gone. Welfare Check is a fast, low-stakes wellness nudge — it carries no private content, never sends your notes or recipients, and can't trigger final delivery. A missed Welfare Check just asks someone to make sure you're okay.

Living alone
Arm a daily check-in so that if something happens and no one would know for days, the people you trust are told to come by.

Learn more →Elderly parents
Help a parent who lives alone set up their own check-in, so the family is alerted quickly if a day goes by without a stop.
Learn more →Night shifts & working alone
Lone workers and night-shift schedules leave long gaps where no one is expecting you. A short timer closes that gap.
Learn more →Managing a condition alone
For anyone who worries about a bad night, a fast nudge to a friend or neighbor can mean help arrives sooner. It is not a medical device or an emergency service.

Prefer the plain mechanism? It's the same idea as a dead man's switch — silence triggers a nudge — with no crypto or hardware, just a timer and an email.
